Our Story
It’s a big step to access therapy so my aim is to provide a comfortable, safe and non-judgmental space for individuals to explore their difficulties and look at ways they can flourish.
I have worked in mental health and wellbeing for nearly thirty years, supporting adults, children and young people. I qualified as a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist in 2015 and worked in the NHS. However I felt there were limitations to the way I was working and I didn’t feel able to provide the service I wanted to, so I left the NHS and opened my private practice. I was interested in Metacognitive Therapy and was accepted to train with the psychologist who developed it, Professor Adrian Wells, and in 2020 I qualified as a Metacognitive Therapist. This is a new ‘Third Wave’ therapy and there is increasing evidence of it’s effectiveness in treating common mental health issues. Personally, I have found it incredibly helpful in working with clients, particularly with worry and rumination, as it focuses on our responses to thoughts rather than their content. Because it is new, it is relatively unknown and so there are quite few therapists, currently a little over 500 in the world. So I am really pleased to be able to offer it here. More recently, I have begun training in Coaching Psychology and working towards eventual Chartered Psychologist status. Coaching Psychology uses a number of approaches, such as Cognitive Behavioural, Positive Psychology and Neuroscience among others, to enable individuals not only to cope but to flourish. In my practice I draw on my experience in all of these areas to tailor my approach to you as an individual, so we collaborate together to help you move forward. Please read on to get a bit more detail of these approaches.
Our Services
I offer therapy and coaching tailored to the needs of my clients.
Free initial consultation call - this is not a therapy session, but is a chance for us to discover what type of support you need and if I am the right therapist for you. I will never take a client on if I believe another service or approach will be more helpful, but if I think I can support you I will do my utmost to help.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy - CBT is an evidence based approach which explores our thoughts and beliefs and how these affect our behaviour. It offers practical strategies to help with such issues as Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Phobias, Health Anxiety, Generalised Anxiety, Depression, Burnout and Self-Esteem, among others.
Metacognitive Therapy - MCT is a new therapy. It differs in several ways from CBT but primarily in that with MCT we pay less attention to evidencing or focusing on the content of thoughts, and instead explore the process behind them and our responses. It views thoughts as events in the mind, rather than facts or powerful entities we need to control. In this way we can understand we don’t need to be afraid of thoughts or battle them. Like CBT, it offers practical strategies to adjust our responses and tolerate discomfort.
Coaching Psychology - This seeks to take traditional life coaching and underpin and enhance it with psychological theory. I am currently training on one of the first courses accredited by the British Psychological Society in the UK. It combines understanding our choices and behaviour, identifying goals and applying strategies to achieve them and thrive. I have a particular interest in health and wellbeing coaching. As I am still in training I offer a discount for this service.
